Bull case

The shaft lifts production towards 50 kg/month at high grade, the gold price holds, and the refinancing lowers the interest rate from 22% without a new share issue. With EBITDA of NOK 300–400m a year and exploration that extends the resource beyond 69,000 oz, EV/EBITDA of 3–4 could give a market cap of NOK 1–1.5bn – about 3x today's.

Bear case

The grade falls, the shaft is delayed, and the refinancing requires a large share issue or conversion; a fall in the gold price or problems with exports/licences in Ethiopia could make the gold loan (9,444 oz) impossible to repay at maturity in July 2027. Shareholders have already been through two restructurings.

Catalysts

  1. Oct 2026Launch of gold loan refinancing (Verdant Capital, Monetary Metals expected to participate)binary ethiopianbusinessreview.net
  2. Oct–Nov 2026First gold export (a test shipment of 10–20 kg, about USD 1.5–3m)gradual ethiopianbusinessreview.net
  3. 31 Oct 2026Environmental and social assessment for the Gilo exploration licence expected to be completedgradual ethiopianbusinessreview.net
  4. Q4 2026Vertical shaft reaches first lateral level – target of 50 kg/month (about 5x current)gradual inderes.fi
Risk of going to zeromedium – the mine makes money at operating level and repays debt, but debt is about 12x cash, the interest rate is 22%, and everything rests on one small mine in Ethiopia.
Next financingOperations now cover costs (EBITDA about NOK 40m in Q2), but repayments of about USD 3m per quarter and 22% interest eat the cash flow; cash is only about NOK 30m. The gold loan matures on 31/7/2027 (about 10 months), and a refinancing led by Verdant Capital is expected to be launched in October 2026 – terms and any share issue unknown.
Warrants & convertiblesDilution over the last 12 months not calculated precisely; the EIH share issue of 15m shares (about +7%) was completed in August/September 2025. Monetary Metals holds warrants equal to about 2% of the capital (strike reset to NOK 1.00 in 2024, below the price). Historically: share count quadrupled since the start of 2024. The coming refinancing in October 2026 may include equity.
Insiders, last 12 monthsNone found (not systematically checked). Insiders own about 0.9% according to stockanalysis.
Largest ownersEthiopian Investment Holdings (15m shares, about 6.5%); others not examined. Institutions own about 9% according to stockanalysis.
Circio check(1) Small market value: yes – DKK 269m. (2) Hot theme: yes – gold near a record price. (3) Upcoming milestones: yes – refinancing, first export and the shaft start-up in Q4 2026. (4) Large partner: partly – Ethiopia's sovereign fund is a shareholder, but there is no large mining partner. (5) Funding for 2+ years: no – the gold loan matures in July 2027 and must be refinanced now. (6) Price near the bottom: no – only −3% in a year.
Why this asymmetryOne of the few penny mining stocks with real production and positive EBITDA, and the shaft could multiply production. But the small resource, missing studies, the 22% loan in ounces and the Ethiopia risk make the downside significant, and the coming refinancing could dilute again.

Business

Is the company getting stronger, not just bigger? · 4 findings
−21 of −30
  • Margin
Operations are now profitable at EBITDA level (Q2 2026: EBITDA SEK 40.7m, 71% margin; TTM operating margin 32%), but net profit is −SEK 154m TTM because of 22% interest and the revaluation of the gold-denominated loan. The profit does not reach shareholders.
    −4
  • Resource base and lifespan
Only about 69,000 oz of resource (about 40,000 oz indicated at 40 g/t). At the target of 50 kg/month (about 19,000 oz/year) the indicated resource lasts only 2–3 years; growth depends on exploration that has not yet been converted into resources.
    −6
  • Studies and documentation
The mine has been put into operation without a PEA, PFS or DFS and without reserves; there is no published NPV/IRR to measure the project against. Production varies with the grade (38.5 g/t in Q2, about 30 g/t expected in Q3).
    −4
  • Capital allocation
Two restructurings in two years: in 2024 a share issue and debt conversion at NOK 1 (share count from about 53 to 115m), in 2025 a new gold loan at 22% interest and a share issue to EIH; the share count is now 229.5m – more than quadrupled since the start of 2024.

  • EV vs resource
EV of about NOK 757m (about USD 75m) equals over USD 1,000 per resource ounce – high for a small producer without reserves. Trailing EV/EBITDA 18.5; on the Q2 run-rate EV/EBITDA is about 4–5, but that rests on one record quarter.
    −6
  • FCF and balance sheet
Free cash flow −SEK 71m TTM (FCF yield about −19%) and negative equity (−206m), so P/B cannot be used as an anchor.

  • Debt and refinancing
The gold loan from Monetary Metals (9,444 oz, about SEK 391m) carries 22% interest, matures on 31/7/2027 and defaults above 10,490 oz; cash is only SEK 31.5m. A new refinancing led by Verdant Capital is expected to be launched in October 2026 – with a risk of new dilution.
    −10
  • Jurisdiction and licences
One mine in the Gambela region of Ethiopia: currency controls (only 70% of export proceeds may be kept in USD), the first export not yet completed, renewal of the mining licence under way and the Gilo licence awaiting an environmental assessment.
    −8
  • Commodity price
Earnings follow the gold price, which trades near a record level; a fall hits EBITDA directly, while a rise increases the debt in the ounce loan – the company does not get the full upside.
    −3

Plus

Only documented strengths. · 2 findings
+4 of +15
  • Strategic owner
Ethiopia's sovereign investment fund, Ethiopian Investment Holdings, subscribed for 15m shares at USD 0.20 (USD 3m) in 2025 – local political anchoring in a difficult jurisdiction.
    +2
  • Debt reduction from operations
About USD 7.0m of the gold loan has been repaid in 2026 (3.4m in Q2 and 3.0m in September) from the mine's own cash flow.

Caveats

What the score does not capture, or where the data is weak.
Penny analysis (Under DKK 3). The share trades in NOK, but the company reports in SEK; financials are converted to NOK at about 0.96 SEK/NOK in the penny object. The gold loan from Monetary Metals is denominated in ounces (9,444 oz), so the debt rises with the gold price – this explains the net loss despite positive EBITDA. No PEA/PFS/DFS or NI 43-101 reserves: the mine was put into operation on a resource (about 69,000 oz indicated+inferred). AISC is not disclosed. The change in share count over the last 12 months was not found precisely (stockanalysis: n/a). Largest owners besides Ethiopian Investment Holdings and insider trades not examined. No stockanalysis forecast page examined.
